Melbourne is a unique community where the opportunities are abundant, the landscapes are vibrant, and neighbors are family. Unfortunately, some fall through the cracks and are left behind as Melbourne grows. Over the last 10 years, the number of housing units hasn't been able to keep pace with our growing population. When vacancy decreases, rents increase, and so do rates of homelessness. This video explores the dynamics of our city and explains why Providence Place is the solution to rising rates of unsheltered homelessness.
WHAT IS PROVIDENCE PLACE?
Providence Place is a 120-unit multi-family housing community scheduled to open at 850 S. Apollo Blvd. in the Summer of 2027. The community will include wrap-around services to help residents overcome challenges and be successful in housing.
BUILDING ON A LEGACY
When Providence Connects (formerly Daily Bread) opened over 35 years ago, it started as a soup kitchen serving 14 meals on its first day. Today, we have expanded focus to provide what unsheltered people really need - a home, and over 400 formerly homeless individuals have been housed in recent years.
NO ONE LEFT BEHIND
Since the Fee Ave. campus closed, Daily Bread moved to 17. E. Hibiscus and merged with the Sharing Center to become Providence Connects. Our shared commitment to walk with our neighbors from suriving to thriving by providing food, housing, and trusted support lives on.
